i build things. i think about things. i connect dots that don't know they're related yet.
i was born in the south and raised between upstate new york and the midwest — corn fed and curious. the kind of kid who was more interested in ideas than directions. after college, i drove west and landed in Los Angeles, where i spent the next decade helping founders turn napkin sketches into companies.
that journey became Colab, a studio that helped hundreds of startups find their footing long before "venture studio" was a buzzword. i still serve as chairman, but these days my focus has evolved.
i now help my wife, Laura, run Ranchonati, my family office and creative home base — a place that ties together business, art, and the people i care about. through Ranchonati, i helped form Denominator Ventures, a joint venture with Ignited, which serves as the backbone for everything we build — including Fractional Venture Partners, where i'm a Managing Partner, and Far West, where i'm a Founding Member.
together, these worlds connect into a simple idea: keep good people close, build what matters, and align incentives so everyone wins when the work works.
recently, i moved to Austin, Texas, trading traffic for trees and finding a new rhythm between work, family, and space to think.
i live here with Laura and our son, Jon Bruce — who keeps me grounded, curious, and occasionally roaring like a dinosaur.
after all these years, i've realized business is just another form of creativity — and great ventures, like great art, are built by people who care deeply about what they're making.
the worlds i build and the people i build them with.
if you're building something that matters, or you just want to talk about ideas, i'd love to hear from you.
